Pulses are in fashion. They aren’t only a staple in the kitchen, but also impress with their taste and nutritiousness. Legume cultivation and production is also expanding to new regions, including European farmland. The transport route for chickpeas is thus more direct. This pulse, which looks quite unspectacular, is establishing itself successfully in European agriculture, and no longer needs to be imported from the distant Turkey. HALBA now sources a majority of its chickpeas from the Bio Gascogne farm in southern France. Lentils are also bought from Bio Gascogne, which is located in the heart of the Armagnac region, instead of importing them from Canada.
