For the first time, HALBA has taken first place worldwide among medium-sized and large chocolate manufacturers in the Chocolate Scorecard 2026. HALBA excels in all evaluated categories and receives the coveted Good Egg Award. This external recognition highlights years of sustainability commitment on an international level.
What is the Chocolate Scorecard?
The Chocolate Scorecard is published annually and evaluates chocolate manufacturers according to key social and environmental criteria along the cocoa value chain. The initiative is coordinated by Be Slavery Free, together with other NGOs. It makes transparent the social and environmental conditions under which chocolate is produced and provides consumers with guidance on which chocolate has been produced under responsible conditions.
What is evaluated?
The assessment covers criteria such as transparency and traceability, measures to protect children, climate and forest protection, agroforestry, living incomes, and the use of pesticides. HALBA was able to impress in all areas thanks to its long-standing commitment.
How we achieved this result.
HALBA has been engaged in cocoa-growing countries for more than 10 years with holistic sustainability projects. At the heart of this is Dynamic Agroforestry, which promotes sustainable farming methods and creates better living conditions for cocoa farmers. HALBA implements cocoa farming projects in Ghana, Ecuador, Honduras, the Dominican Republic, Peru, and Madagascar, among others. For example, the Sankofa project in Ghana combines Dynamic Agroforestry with the promotion of women and youth, child protection, and securing living incomes. HALBA works to achieve a holistic impact along the entire cocoa supply chain, including smallholder farmers.
